Nicky Milner

Head of Department (Archaeology)

Prof Nicky Milner research focuses on prehistory, the Mesolithic period and the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition.

She has over 20 years of experience working on European shell middens and the incremental growth line analysis of marine molluscs. By sectioning shells, the age of the exploited species can be determined, helping to evaluate the change in marine biodiversity/ecosystem functioning across these periods. Nicky has projects, which are based, both in the lab and in the field and she aims to bring innovative approaches through the development of new themes. Her fieldwork is interdisciplinary in approach and her work at Star Carr involved working with over 20 specialists.

Nicky will contribute to the archaeological element of the project and will mainly be working on the Northern European Work Package 1.
