Giulia Zampirolo
Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr Giulia Zampirolo research interests lie at the intersection of archaeology, ancient DNA, and ecology, with a particular focus on understanding human-induced environmental changes over time.
Giulia specialised in ancient metagenomics, with a background in both archaeology and paleogenomics. Her work has primarily focused on applying sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA) techniques to different sedimentary contexts, enabling the reconstruction of historical landscapes and human practices over temporal scales.
Giulia, based at the Globe Institute, University of Copenhagen, is part of the SEACHANGE Copenhagen team and contributes to Work Package 1 (WP1). In her current project, she analyses sedaDNA from marine and archaeological deposits in the North Sea to explore the interactions between past ecosystem structures, climate, and human resource use during the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition (ca. 4000 cal BC).
