Evgeny Genelt-Yanovskiy

Research Fellow

Evgeny’s research focuses on the evolutionary history of Atlantic and Arctic marine communities during the late Pleistocene, Holocene and last century.

His background is in zoology and biogeography. During his doctoral research, Evgeny employed a range of different techniques to describe the metapopulation structure and individual growth rates of a boreal bivalve species, the cockle, Cerastoderma edule, in the Subractic Barents Sea. More recently, he has applied methods of molecular ecology and molecular phylogeny to reveal the Pleistocene and Holocene evolutionary history of voles, lemmings, and molluscs. He also specialises in Arctic and North Pacific benthic marine fauna.

In SEACHANGE, Evgeny is involved in Work Package 5, applying stable isotope data from marine mammal bones to understand whether the removal of baleen whale species resulted in detectable responses in Arctic biodiversity and also contributes to laboratory analyses of Arctica islandica shells from Iceland and the North Sea.
