Emma Northey

Graduate Research Assistant

Emma Northey is a Graduate Research Assistant to James Scourse at the University of Exeter. Her research primarily focuses on using proxies to understand past marine environments.

Emma completed her BSc Environmental Science degree at the University of Exeter in 2024. During this time, she worked with the SEACHANGE team in bivalve sclerochronology, aiming to understand what environmental factors drive Arctica islandica growth in the Fladen Ground, North Sea. Emma is continuing work with the team in constructing sclerochronological records and applying this work to understand wider North Sea dynamics.

Emma also contributes to Work Package 3 (Brazil), in fieldwork organisation and the analysis of sediment sequences from Acarai Lagoon. She will initially focus on generating age-depth models and understanding late Holocene environmental change in the region through palaeoecological analyses.
